Librarian Licensure Exams 2009 Update

July 12, 2009

Graduates of any course concentrating on library science (other than BLIS and MLIS) can no longer take the Librarian Licensure Examinations for November 2009. The request for “extending the period within which to allow graduates of the above mentioned degrees  to take the examination” by the Philippine Board for Librarians has been denied. The five-year time frame that has been alloted for the aforementioned graduates to take the licensure exams upon the effectivity of RA 9246 has been expired. Any extention can only be done through amendment of the law and any amendment can only be done by the body that created the law.

Therefore, anyone who wants to be a licensed librarian can only take the licensure exam if s/he is a BLIS or MLIS graduate.

[edit] Also, retakers of the board exam are given last chance to take this exam on November.

In regard with this, the Librarian Licensure Examinations will be on November 10 - 11, 2009. Deadline of filing for the application for the Librarian Licensure Examinations will be on October 21.

The UP School of LIbrary and Information Studies Review Program starts on August 9 - October 25 (every Sunday) and  October 18 -25(Intensive). For reservations and other info, please go to the UP SLIS Official website.

I guess all masteral graduate even MLS need not to worry about having such license. You just have to enroll Master of Lib. Sci. then the problem is solve. You can earn higher salary than those poor licensed librarians having only Bachelors degree. So, whats the use of taking the board exam? Better stop that Board Exam because its just nothing. SO EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO CHANCE BUT dont worry you are more prioritize when you have your masters than of obtaining that LICENSED from PRC.

its unfair. how about those who failed to take the exam . and had been in the service for almost 20 years. How about if you have only 9 units in MSLS ? are they still qualified to take or they have to finish their masteral degree.

The RA 9246 states that you should first have your masteral degree (if you don’t have your BLIS degree) before taking the board exam.

even i am not under blis??

how about bachelor of secondary education major in library science who graduated last 2008

but the school didnt confirm regarding the laws that we are not now qualified to take it?

Ms. Liza, in the Phillippines, we need to take the PRC licensure exam for us to be called professionals. This exam is also a way of determining that our librarians are competent and have enough knowledge to perform the duties of being a librarian.
Ms. Hope, how about those who spent their 4 years studying everything about librarianship and another few months reviewing to pass the licensure exam? is it not more unfair to the them than those who was given enough time to comply with the law?
Ms. Witty Mae, i am sorry but you cant take the exam according to R.A. 9246. You can take MLIS, then take the board exam.
:p

being a PROFESSIONAL librarian is the most challenging trials for any bliss. so do not take lightly that being a license is just for commodities. Haven’t you even desired to be a licensed librarian?? well to you maybe it just a branding of one owns identity but to most of all the bliss i guess it a dream come true.
